Stoicism in Five Words: Virtue Is The Only Good
Disappointing, right? It’s a baffling or even pompous-sounding stance unless you’ve studied the philosophy.
Stoicism is hard to encapsulate, but give me a long run-on sentence and I’ll try again.
Stoics believe that most of what happens to us is outside our control, but what we do always control is how we respond to what happens to us, and when we respond, we must always do so with wisdom, justice, courage, and moderation, the four Stoic virtues.
Sure Stoicism has techniques to find peace and excellence in life, but at the end of the day, Stoicism is about virtue. It’s about being a good person, your best self, and learning to reflexively do the right thing in any situation.
Great summary and video.
